Hello my lovelies!
It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted a blog and I feel awful about it. Things have been so crazy the past few months with work, travel, and my two fur babies that’s right..we got another one), and with 2020 coming up in 11 days, I thought it would be not only fun but appropriate for me to post some Photography New Year’s Resolutions. We do New Year Resolutions every year for the Chamber and its really kind of kept us accountable and has pushed us to revamp our benefits. So with that being said, check out my Photography New Year’s Resolutions!
Never leave the house without my camera
Let’s face it, camera equipment is large, bulky, heavy, and sometimes a giant pain the butt to lug around. However! There have been numerous times I wanted to photograph something or I thought a composition was neat and I didn’t have my camera to capture the moment right then and there.
Never hesitate when photographing
I’m an introvert and honestly quite shy and a lot of times will hesitate to photograph something because I don’t want to be an inconvenience or get in the way. Due to my awkwardness, I end up missing a lot of shots or great opportunities because of my reluctance.
Stop doubting myself and my photography
Like I mentioned above, I’m introverted and awkward which tends to hinder me quite a bit. I wouldn’t necessarily say that I lack inspiration because I have TONS of ideas, but I often feel inadequate compared to other photographers which in turn makes me doubt myself and my skill. This also goes hand in hand with my lack of ability to charge potential clients what should be considered fair price. My insecurities get the best of me and I worry that my photos aren’t good enough or that I won’t get a potential client because of what I quote them.
Expand & Broaden my horizons
Whether it be dedicating time to my Youtube, learning or perfecting a new photo technique, starting a long-term project or simply revamping my creative goals…whatever it is, I need to be focusing on expanding myself and developing my skills.
Get Connected
I’m sure most of you who know me are reading this and thinking“Connected? Come on Kim you work for an organization that connects people!”. This is true. However, I can guarantee that 99.9% of our membership has no idea I’m a photographer. Why? Simply put, my job is to help you promote your business; not use my position to promote myself. If I’m asked I’ll gladly tell you all about it, but I don’t feel that it’s right to push my own agenda on you. Though, with that being said, I used to have a blast when my friend Shae and I would go out on joint shoots. It was fun how the circumstances were the same and yet we both had different perspectives. When shooting with fellow photographers, you usually find that your creative juices flow a little easier and ideas and techniques are being talked about. So if you’re a photographer and you want to hang, hit me up!
Studio time
When purchasing a house, I knew I wanted space for a studio because although you can rent the basement of Wyoming Camera Outfitters, I’m not made of money and honestly I wanted an area of my own. Life has gotten in the way and my studio isn’t what it could be. It isn’t the perfect place to shoot product photography or a quick head shot, it’s where my dogs wrestle and play tug-of-war. Not that I’m complaining – because seriously, have you seen my pups? They’re adorable! Nevertheless, as part of expanding and developing my skills, the set up of my studio is a must!
For many of us, the start of a new year is a time for new beginnings, goals, and overall approach to life. With the start of 2020, it’s a chance for us to ditch the past and start on a new venture!
Thank you to those who have made 2019 a good year and have stuck by me and all of my shenanigans. I can never begin to even explain how much I love and appreciate all of you.
Much love,
