Engagement 101 | 5 Reasons To Have Engagement Photos

January 16, 2020

Whether you got a new shiny piece of bling over the holidays or have been engaged for a while, you may be wondering if it's worth it to have engagement photos taken. Couples often tend to overlook the importance of an engagement shoot in the midst of planning for their upcoming nuptials. However! There are several benefits to having an engagement shoot and four main reasons why you should not miss out on having your own engagement photo shoot.

Get to know each other

One of the biggest benefits to having engagement photos taken is to better connect with your photographer.  We get to know you, you get to know us, and ultimately we build a more trustworthy relationship. We'll be spending a lot of time together on your big day so having someone you feel comfortable with is a big advantage. Plus it gives us an opportunity to take notes on both you and your partner's individual personalities, which in turn makes for more candid and specially captured moments on your big day.

Practice makes perfect

I like to think of an engagement shoot as a "pre-wedding shoot".  It gives you a taste of what to expect on the big day and allows you the opportunity to get more comfortable with the idea of someone taking consistent photos of you.  It also gives the photographer a better idea of what poses or items to shoot during the big day.  Some clients are more detailed oriented and want photographs of everything (the rings, getting ready, the venue, invitations, a first look..etc) whereas others are more low key and simply want the typical wedding photos (the ceremony, the first dances, speeches..etc).

Multi-purpose usage

I'm a "kill two birds with one stone" kinda gal and we all know that wedding photos are cherished forever.  However! Having professional photos of the two of you in a more natural habitat gives you additional images that can be used in a multitude of ways.   Create your Save the Dates or your thank you cards, use the images on your wedding website, add them to your guest registry, use them as wedding decor, or shoot, send them out as holiday cards!  Need some inspiration? Celebrate your love

You're engaged!  Enjoy the moment! Your engagement won't last forever and having engagement photos can be an awesome way to preserve the memories prior to the wedding.

Most Photographers include it

Not all, but MOST photographers include a complimentary and or discounted engagement photo shoot in their packages.

Are you convinced yet? I sure hope so!  I'd love to connect with you and ENGAGE (see what I did there) in a "pre-wedding shoot" :)

Be married my friends!
