The adventures of Miki the Malamute | Dog Moms Unite

November 29, 2018

I’m the type of  “dog mom” that makes birthday cakes for their fur babies.  Since my baby celebrated her first birthday last Thursday, I thought I’d share with you this dog approved Pumpkin & Peanut Butter cake recipe from Personal Creations.

Before I share this delicious recipe, I’d like to share with you some background knowledge.

Autumn is my favorite time of the year, the smell of pumpkin spice and wood burning stoves, the crunch of leaves underneath you, and of course..my favorite holiday Halloween!  Autumn has become much more for me since I’ve moved into my own place as I have the ability to decorate the crap out of my house and now that I have my beloved Malamute, Miki, we celebrated much more this Autumn than usual!

Miki was born November 23, 2017 and as the runt, was left behind when the rest of her brothers and sisters were adopted.  We adopted her on March 17, 2018 and since then, she’s been spoiled rotten! Like any obsessed dog mom, my phone is filled with more pictures of Miki Moo than anything else and she’s what I like to call my “fur baby”.  This year, we’ve celebrated a lot of firsts and in usual Kim fashion, her birthday was no exception.

Personal Creations is an online company that “helps create lasting memories with perfect, personalized gifts for all of life’s special occasions.” I came across them when I was checking out dog cake recipes on Pinterest (I LIVE FOR PINTEREST).  I checked out the variety of recipes and picked one out that would not only be delicious for Moo but also appropriate for the holidays.  The recipe I landed on was the Pumpkin & Peanut Butter cake as Moo Moo LOVES peanut butter.

The recipe calls for:

  • 1 cup oat flour
  • 1 cup pumpkin puree
  • ¼ cup peanut butter
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 egg

Frosting

  • ½ cup nonfat yogurt
  • ¼ cup peanut butter
  • Mini dog treats (optional)

Like any cake mix, you mix the wet ingredients first.  Mix together the pumpkin puree, the peanut butter, the egg, and the honey.

After stiring in the flour and baking powder, grease the tins (or pans) with coconut oil and fill with batter.

Bake for 20-25 minutes until the center is firm.

Mix together the yogurt and peanut butter for the frosting. Once the cake has cooled, frost and decorate with treats! (I used some of Miki's favorite, the Milk-Bone Trail Mix)
