ISO: Photographer | Ghosting Your Photographer

April 22, 2020

Ghosting. Not Ghost Busters, Casper the Friendly Ghost, or Ghost Adventures. Plain and simple ghosting.  According to Urban Dictionary, Ghosting means “when a person cuts off all communication with their friends or the person they're dating, with zero warning or notice before hand. You'll mostly see them avoiding friend's phone calls, social media, and avoiding them in public. Example: I haven't seen Tom in 3 months. I think he may be ghosting me.”

Although the term “ghosting” is primarily used for dating and friendships, it still applies to other areas of life.  One of the hardest things for anyone in the customer service industry is to get so excited about a potential client who after hours and sometimes days of conversation, decides to ghost them.

Picture it. A potential client sends an inquiry and you’re so excited to get to know them and help them capture awesome memories! You chat back and forth about dates and times all while taking notes about your potential client and their day.  You send your response and go back to business as usual but in the back of your mind you’re excited to hear from them!  Then nothing.  After a few days you decide to check in.  Not pushy but also not trying to sound desperate. Still nothing. A few days later you consider sending one more message but think it may be excessive and decide to finally just let it go and move on.

Please know that we aren’t offended, and we understand that life is busy, things come up, and we respect that. We may be out of your budget, not your style, or you may have found your dream photographer.  All we ask is that you simply let us know.  Send a one-line email, instant message, or text; letting us know you went with someone else.  We’re not offended, we just want to know – don’t leave us hanging! 😊

Be merry my friends!
