ISO: Photographer | Getting the most out of your photoshoot experience

You finally book that photo session your great aunt has been asking you about but now, you aren't sure about what to wear, how to pose, or if the photos will even turn out. Have no fear! I've got some great tips and tricks on how to get the most out of your photoshoot experience!

Jitterbug Feels

It is completely normal to be nervous. It's not every day that you are in the spotlight getting photographed and we understand. Part of our job is to make you feel comfortable and at ease during your session. I feel that the best way to combat the jitterbugs is to be well-rested and be comfortable. If it helps for you to bring some comfortable clothes, soothing props, or someone you feel at ease with, then I say "YES! PLEASE DO!"

EXTRA EXTRA

Very rarely do you ever just pull up to a location, get out of the car, and automatically start shooting. Many of the best locations are hidden treasures and may require a bit of work. Not to mention, sometimes the best photos are spontaneous, so it's best to be prepared with an extra pair of shoes and sometimes a whole different outfit.

Candid Moments

A lot of photographers will tell you they enjoy the candid moments, and most of them do. Although posing is a standard practice in the world of photography, I'm not the biggest fan of it and I often find myself analyzing the "natural motion" in other photos. Not to mention, similar to my statement above, some of the best photos I've ever taken are the ones where clients are being real and raw. Show us your most affectionate, goofy, romantic, or passionate side!

The face says it all! If you’re uncomfortable and not enjoying yourself during your session, it’ll come across in your photos. HAVE FUN! This is meant to be a relaxed and enjoyable experience.

Open Mind

Artists see the world differently; we see textures, shapes, moods, and lighting. Keep an open mind when a photographer asks you to do something because the result will often blow your mind! Not every image needs to be a "cookie-cutter" photo and don't be surprised if you get asked to dance, twirl, jump, skip, or run!

Time Warp

Let's be real, rushing isn't fun for anyone. Give yourself time to pamper and treat yourself before your session. That way, you can show up relaxed and ready to go.

Regardless of what your chosen photographer believes, let's face it, photo sessions can sometimes be challenging for both the photographer and the client. However, if done correctly, both parties will have a great experience and the outcome will provide even better images!

XOXO,
